A Glyphs 3 plugin that converts any typeface to a dot type version
using a global grid. Works universally with Sans Serif, Serif,
Monospace and Variable Fonts.
The grid is controlled by two independent axes, X and Y, allowing
precise calibration for any typeface. In Variable Fonts, dot size
and margin interpolate automatically between masters. Settings can
be saved as presets directly in the .glyphs file, traveling with
the font at all times.

DotType©Plugin
Works with any typeface — from the most geometric sans serif
to the most detailed serif. The global grid adapts to every glyph,
every weight, every style.
For best results across an entire typeface, calibrate in this order:
Dot Size
Set the diameter of each dot.
Margin
Set the spacing between dots (spacing = size + margin)
Grid offset X
Shift the grid horizontally until stems align to columns
Grid offset Y
Shift the grid vertically until strokes align to rows
Available Shapes
Seven shapes are available: Circle, Diamond, Cross, Hexagon, Ring,
Star, and Heart.
Each one is constructed with native Glyphs paths,
fully editable after applying.
Presets are saved as a DotType© presets custom parameter
in the .glyphs file, so they travel with the font.
Save — type a name and click Save
Load — select a preset from the dropdown
Delete — select a preset and click Delete
Known limitations ︎︎
Glyphs with very thin strokes relative to the spacing may occasionally miss a dot row.
This is an inherent property of grid-based dot fonts and requires minor manual adjustment.
The grid overlay (open paths) should be removed before export.
