What’s font licensing?
Fonts are software that you must purchase licensing for. A font licence gives you the right to use a font in certain, specified ways. You do not own the font itself. The Font Licence specifies the terms and conditions of use and, once you finalise the purchase of the licence, is a legally binding contract between you and Non Foundry. We offer licensing types for any use, and each of those licensing types can be purchased in multiple sizes depending on your requirements.
It’s important that you read and understand the applicable font licence terms before making a purchase with us.
What licenses
do you offer?
We have three main licensing types: Purchase Desktop licensing to use our fonts on your computer to create images and documents for print and on screen. Desktop licensing is calculated per computer the files are installed on within a single organisation.
Web licensing is calculated by the maximum of unique monthly visitors to the website. And lastly, we have App licensing for using our fonts directly in your mobile and desktop apps. App licensing is calculated by the numbers of developers working on your apps.
If your use case is not included please contact us to discuss.
How long
do licenses last?
All our licenses are one-time payments and are valid forever. As long as you comply with the conditions set forth in the End User License Agreement (EULA).
Desktop
What uses does Desktop licensing include?
This license covers the use in programs where you create an output, like Adobe’s Creative Suite, Figma, or Microsoft Office. For example, this license is required for creating printed documents, videos, social media posts, and logos. This license covers the embedding of font files into PDF files, but not into a file of any other kind.
What font formats do you offer for Desktop-licensed fonts?
Desktop fonts are delivered as OpenType font files in OTF format. Upon request by email, we also happily offer TrueType (TTF) files after your purchase.
Which licensing tier I require?
The correct licensing tier is determined by how many computers you need to install the fonts on. You may only install them within a single organization. You cannot share a license with your clients—but on the other hand, only organizations that need to install the font files require a license.
Can I give the fonts to freelancers?
Freelancers not working at one of your business locations and not on your own computers need their own, separate licensing.
Web
What uses does Web licensing include?
This license allows you to use our typefaces on websites with the @font-face technology. Web fonts are licensed for a certain number of unique monthly visitors.
What font formats do you offer for Web-licensed fonts?
Web fonts are delivered in multiple formats to ensure compatibility with modern and older browsers.
We will send WOFF and WOFF2 formats for our web font licenses. Upon request by email, we also happily offer TrueType (TTF) files after your purchase.
How is my Web licensing tier calculated?
This license pricing is based off the projected number of unique monthly visitors you will have. The overall, combined number of all unique visitors per month to your sites needs to be covered by your licensing. If you find that the actual number exceeds the tier you purchased please email us to inquire about upgrading your license.
Do I need to set up any security measures?
You don’t need to install any tracking code or set up your server in a specific way. We trust you to use our fonts fairly and pay for the licensing you need.
App
What uses does App licensing include?
This license allows you to embed our fonts within applications. Our fonts can be used in apps for both desktop and mobile platforms.
What font formats do you offer for App-licensed fonts?
App fonts are delivered as PostScript OpenType font files in OTF format. Upon request by email, we also happily offer TrueType TTF files after your purchase.
How do I know which licensing tier I require?
This license pricing is tied to the number of computers used to design and develop your apps. It has no relation to the number of downloads or users after the release.
Trial font
What are trial fonts?
We offer all of our typefaces as trial fonts so that you can test them in your designs before buying any licensing. The trial fonts contain only a minimal character set and lack all the OpenType features available in the retail versions.
What can I do with the trial fonts?
You can install the trial fonts on your computer and use them in any of your mockups. You can show them to your team, friends, or clients. Once you decide to use the fonts or your client approves your proposal, you can purchase the corresponding license.
More lincensing
Do you offer unlimited or corporate licensing?
Yes! We offer a licensing tier specifically designed to meet the needs and requirements of large companies. This can include creating custom typefaces, modifying an existing font from our catalogue, or developing language extensions for any of our typefaces. Feel free to email us for more information.
